A few months ago, we thought Lexy (our blind chicken) laid an egg. There was one in the coop (the top part, by their laying boxes) that was not in a laying box. We figured Lexy laid it since it it wasn't where they lay. Turns out, we have a Buff Orphington that likes to push eggs out of the nest occasionally and that's what that egg was. Fast forward to last week. Todd noticed Lexy's comb and waddle were getting bright red and swollen. She started getting more vocal and was also digging big holes in the dirt and laying sideways in them. All weird stuff...even for her.
Raelee went out to the coop yesterday to feed them a treat. She comes squealing in "LEXY LAID AN EGG!!!" I went and looked at it and it was quite obvious that it was Lexy's egg. The color was WAY different than any of the others and it was a bit funny shaped. Much like my other chicken's first eggs. Exciting day!!! I doubt she'll lay every day...maybe not even every week or month. Her comb is still bright red and swollen, and she is still loud, so who knows. Maybe she's entered the land of laying for good. Time will tell.

| Lexy. Could you imagine what she thought when she laid that egg? It probably scared the snot out of her! |
On a side note, Raelee has been interested in wood working again. I'm letting her play out there this morning...working on and off with Daddy who is guiding her as she needs it but mostly letting her be to explore. I don't have the heart to go out there and tell her it's time to start school. It can wait a few hours :)
